At Wonder Star School, we believe that learning should be engaging, enjoyable and rewarding for everyone, developing pupils to be lifelong learners.
Through high-quality teaching, we inspire pupils to learn and equip themselves with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to reach their full potential.
Our belief in an individualised approach to teaching and learning contributes to pupils becoming successful learners who make excellent progress.
Vision: To nurture and inspire curious minds.
Ethos: A place where everyone matters.
Values: Respect / Inspire / Succeed / Engage (RISE)
Aims: To be happy and safe, to develop independence and to be able to communicate.
We deliver a curriculum which is broad, balanced and inclusive, tailored for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties as well as varying needs, including SpLD, MLD and various cognitive learning difficulties.
Through this curriculum, we also aim for pupils to achieve and maintain a strong sense of wellbeing. This is accomplished through the building of mental health literacy and self-belief, which will be consciously incorporated into all aspects of their school experience: subject lessons, outdoor education, education resilience, and emotional intelligence.
This means that our curriculum, in every subject, is planned to ensure pupils leave with exceptional outcomes, both in their academic attainment and in their personal development. We encourage every child to strive for personal excellence, as well as reaching their full academic potential.
Our School provision offers a carefully structured curriculum underpinned by a range of accredited programs designed to meet the diverse needs of our pupils.
While our pupils are not yet working toward formal qualifications such as SATS, we ensure that each child has access to meaningful accreditation opportunities that support their individual progress and reflect their achievements across key areas of development.
We will provide access to the following accredited and structured learning pathways:
AQA Unit Award Scheme – Providing formal recognition of small-step achievements across a wide range of curriculum and life skill areas, tailored to individual learning goals. The units can also be embedded within existing EHCP targets or curriculum pathways.
Swimming and Physical Development Awards – Delivered through schemes such as STA and ASA, these recognise pupils' progress in water safety, physical coordination, and confidence.
Forest School and Outdoor Learning – Promoting resilience, independence, and teamwork in an experiential learning environment.
In addition to these accreditations, we will embed evidence-based approaches such as Makaton, PECS, and the ‘Zones of Regulation’, delivered by trained staff to support communication, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.
